Artistic stained glass at the Parisi-Valle Museum from September 20
LIGHT AND COLOR: THE MAGIC OF ARTISTIC STAINED GLASS
Exhibit of the works by the students of one of the first courses in Italy. Good professional opportunities

These are real “paintings of light,” stemmed from a sophisticated art that has always been a traditional craft on the Maggiore Lake and still produces capable artists whose works are commissioned even from as far as Japan.  Thanks to an innovative project that aims to create a new generation of stained glass artists, this form of art will continue to grow on the Varese side of the Verbano area.
From Saturday, September 20 thru Sunday, November 2 the Parisi-Valle Museum will display the works made by the students of the first course on the creation and restoration of these marvelous works of art.
The course lasted from January to July 31, 2003 and thirteen students attended it; this was the first course of this kind in Lombardy, and one of the very first in Italy.
This was made possible by the cooperation between Agenzia Formativa of the province of Varese (through CFP Luino) and the Commune of Maccagno, who has made available and adapted the rooms that once hosted the town hall.  During the 1050-hour course, the students have followed the instructions of professor Alessandro Grassi (a master in this field) and his collaborators learning modern and ancient secrets of this millenary art while developing their own personal style.

This exhibit will be the chance for them to display the results they have achieved, presenting to the public the works they made as their final test during the exams. The techniques they’ve learned include the traditional stained glass technique, the art of painting on glass, and the creation of three-dimensional objects.
The exhibition will also include other works created during the course, including the windows made for the little church in Forcora, which will be installed after the exhibit.

“The Commune of Maccagno is very proud of this project - culminated in the exhibition - that was made possible by the cooperation of various institutions and cultural groups. Our administrators have made available the facilities as well as the rooms where the course was given - the rooms that once were the town hall and that are going to be totally renewed in order to use them for more such projects,” said Renzo Giani, mayor of Maccagno.

Luca Marsico - president of Agenzia Formativa della Provincia di Varese - added, ”The satisfactory result of the course, and the exhibition of the students’ works  - with the first responses of the market - confirms that a vocational training aiming at a new development of ancient arts and jobs can offer real professional opportunities to those who attend the courses. In this sense, this project in Maccagno can be seen as the starting point for further and even more stimulating projects.”
