Press release
Our museum is an everchanging entity, not just because every
exhibit at one point leaves room to the next one, but also because it integrates
and gives the right importance to the cultural wealth of the town where it is
situated.
The original collection the museum was built around keeps on growing, adding new
acquisitions every year in order to go even deeper into the subjects developed
by the works that were already in the collection.
The museum’s permanent collection is displayed along with the thematic exhibits, which are obviously the most dynamic part of the museum activities. However, efforts are made to choose works from the collection that are in keeping with the exhibitions. Besides, the museum does its best to be also a useful educational tool for schools through its guided tours.
As long as the collections belonging to all museums are well documented through magazines, CD-rom catalogs, the internet, etc., owning a large collection is not a problem for any museum; it is, in fact, an asset that will make it possible to change the works on display more often, lend them to other museums, design better exhibits, etc.
A large permanent collection also allows the museum to organize exhibits also in schools, libraries, and other public places in order to improve the local schools’ educational programs, stimulate meetings and debates, create occasions for museums to cooperate both on national and international territory, and so forth. Civico Museo Parisi Valle focuses on modern art, so it becomes fundamental for it to keep on including in its permanent collection new works by contemporary artists, especially those from Lombardia.
The works in this first set of acquisition were chosen based on
the professionalism of the artists, as well as the techniques used and the
themes they express. The works have been donated by the museum’s sponsors or by
the artists themselves. This exhibition displays the around 40 works that have
recently become part of the museum’s permanent collection; they will be included
in the exhibit’s catalog, which is also the first volume of a series that will
assess all the future acquisitions.
The acquisition plan is going to span several years and has as a purpose that of
expanding the current collection mainly based on works by Vittorio Parisi in
order to become a truly high level and important contemporary art collection in
Lombardia, especially in the province of Varese.
The exhibition – designed by Claudio Rizzi - will open on March 11, 2006, and close on March 26, 2006, then part of the museum will go back to hosting the exhibits scheduled for this year, while the remaining areas of it will display the works belonging to the permanent collection in rotation.
