Pressrelease

This exhibition sponsored by Regione Lombardia, Comune and Provincia made its debut in Mantova in the art gallery Errepi Arte during the Literature Festival.
“Allegories of writing” will now be hosted by the art museum in Maccagno, where it marks a further step into the in-depth examination of artistic languages.
The exhibit stresses the cultural relevance of the Fifth Day of Contemporary Art and strengthens the institutional aspiration of this kind of collective initiative.

Writing and painting walk side by side very often, just like writers and painters do.
It’s fairly easy to find examples of this in modern art, such as the three artists whose works will be displayed in this exhibit. Their territories are different but overlap in their concise descriptions of time’s passage and representations of humanity’s spaces.

Mario de Leo retrieves the shapes of ancient graphism - be that scrolls or legal documents - in an exploration of alphabets and stratification of primeval writings.

Raffaele Penna gives life to inscriptions, fragments and divinatory bird flights, signs in the sky for sun, rain, rich harvests. His paintings bear the marks of time and life - a life that is explored, hidden and finally revealed.

Grazia Ribaudo immortalizes the present and its hectic, cold communication; she interprets the new geometries of written language and the mathematics of a monolog that needs color to taste life.

Claudio Rizzi and Paola Artoni designed the exhibition with coordination by Ad Acta. Regione Lombardia and Provincia di Varese sponsor this exhibit that will feature a total of 45 works.
A comprehensive catalog by Silva Editrice will be available.
