Pressrelease
After a number of collective exhibitions
revolving around specific themes, the museum goes back to displaying the works
of contemporary individual artists, starting with an exhibit dedicated to Gianni
Brusamolino.
Brusamolino was born in Cassano D'Adda in 1928 and studied art in Milan at
Scuola d'Arte del Castello Sforzesco and at the Brera Accademy.
During the 50's and early 60's he emerges as a remarkable artistic personality
in the Milan area, both as a painter and a sculptor. He lives in France for long
periods, absorbing the local culture and making it part of his intense research
and numerous experiences.
The artist is initially influenced by existential realism, as are his friends
Giuseppe Guerreschi, Mino Ceretti, Bepi Romagnoni, Gianfranco Ferroni, and other
artists of that time. Later, however, he moves to a poetic and informal type of
expression exploring suggestive and evocative spaces.
His inborn sense of time
and history merges then with his inclination towards the classic and Greek/Roman
culture resulting in images where epic tradition, myth interpretation and
contemporary art become one.
In his ripe age, influences by Cezanne and Marini forcefully emerge again, not
as a mere imitation, but as markedly personal interpretation.
Brusamolino is still one of the most important artistic personality in Lombardy,
as the many writings by critics make evident. He still produces art actively,
using his enormous experience and talent, supported in turn by his very refined
technical skills.
The Museo Civico di Maccagno focuses on particular cycles of his recent artistic
past that have been typical of his production during the last decade.
The exhibit was conceived
by Claudio Rizzi, coordinated by Ad Acta and sponsored by Regione Lombardia,
Provincia di varese and Provincia di Milano. The exhibition, designed by Stefano
Cagliari, includes about 50 works (paintings and sculptures) coherently selected
and linearly displayed for maximum clarity.
An exhaustive catalog by Silva Editrice about the works on display and the
artist will be available.
