Press release

This exhibit of Giancarlo Cazzaniga’s works (May 7 through June 26, 2005) will add another page to the successful season of Civico Museo Parisi-Valle, after that of Enzo Maio’s paintings and the large exhibit “Paginas desde Lombardia – itineranti di ritorno”. This artist fully deserves to be considered one of the protagonists of art in the second half of the twentieth century, and this exhibition offers an interesting perspective on his works.

Giancarlo Cazzaniga was born in Monza in 1930. Along with other young artists such as Romagnoni, Ceretti, Vaglieri, Banchieri, Guerreschi, Bodini, and Ferroni he is part of the artistic current that will be later on called “Existential Realism”.
His works are displayed at the “Biennale di Venzia” and “Quadriennale di Roma” in the 60’s, as he’s already considered an artist of national stature whose works can be found, in fact, in the most important exhibitions. Many catalogs result from the long string of exhibitions in public and private galleries, both in Italy and abroad, and his works are included in public collections and important national and international museums.
Giancarlo Cazzaniga’s personality and artistic life are an integral part of the cultural turmoil that develops in the second half of the twentieth century in Lombardy, a movement that grows on the same vibrations and stimuli as the international artistic renewal currents.
When his experience with Existential Realism comes to an end – the group splits between the end of the 50’s and the beginning of the 60’s – Cazzaniga starts working on his own form of expression that constantly and consistently evolves even today, a personal interpretation of topics and emotions that are part of his inner artistic world.
A great deal of writings can be found that
analyze Cazzaniga’s artistic research, the first of which was an essay by Mario De Micheli written in 1958 that was followed by the writings of numerous influential people.
