Press release
The
collections donated to Civico Museo Parisi Valle by Giuseppe Vittorio Parisi and
his wife Wanda Valle include numerous works on paper (pastels, pencils, inks,
etc.) made by important artists that have left their mark on the history of
Italian art.
This
exhibit will display a rigorous selection of the most significant works that
cover over fifty years of artistic research, showing the talent of masters such
as Giacomo Balla, Giorgio de Chirico, Salvatore Fiume, Renato Guttuso, Pericle
Fazzini, Renato Birolli, Bruno Cassinari, Pietro Consagra, Nino Franchina,
Leoncillo, Italo Valenti, Carlo Levi, Giuseppe Mazzullo, Lorenzo Guerrini, and
Giuseppe Vittorio Parisi himself.
To an acute observer drawings contain all the potentialities of an artist;
through these drawings - many of which were created before the authors reached
their artistic maturity - you can compare the paths followed by painters and
sculptors that would then move on to create extremely interesting and valuable
works.
These drawings bear witness to very diverse creative journeys - sometimes they
are descriptive, but often they just try to capture the essence of shapes in
order to achieve the simplest and most effective representation of formal
elements.
Each artist, in fact, relies on this technique to dive deeper into his or her
own personal vision of reality, often reaching a complete detachment from it;
when the artist reaches this level, he or she has conquered a new kind of
reality that will be expressed through compositions and constructions that we
normally define “abstract”.
Finally,
we can say that works on paper represent the immediacy of an artist’s vision
or idea, and therefore they embody - even more than a sculpture or a painting -
the truth of artistic expression.
The exhibit will open on June 29th and will be open every day except on Monday
through October 20th, from 10.00 to 12.00 AM and from 3.00 to 7.00 PM

Civico Museo Parisi-Valle is a modern art museum in Maccagno (VA) that opened in 1998. This building (which won the IN/ARCH 1991/92 Award as an architectural structure for cultural purposes) is made of reinforced concrete and crosses the Giona River like a bridge where the river flows into Lake Maggiore, and was designed by Roman architect Maurizio Sacripanti (1916-1996), engineer Giuseppe Noris (1924-1989), architect Riccardo Colella, and by Giuseppe Vittorio Parisi, expert in visual culture and founder of the museum.
