Press release

"Metaphors of Memory" is the latest element of a complex long-term project and, as such, is tightly connected to the previous exhibit in this series (Metaphors of Landscape), which was displayed in Maccagno in 2005 and then transferred to Gazzoldo degli Ippoliti, to be finally displayed in Spazio Guicciardini in Milan (in 2006).
"Metaphors of Memory" further analyzes the contemporary artistic language that goes beyond the mere representation of reality to plunge into the artists’ inner worlds and personal interpretations of what they see and perceive.

While the previous exhibit pivoted on a readily recognizable parameter – landscapes – this new exhibit has memory as its central theme; this time what the works have in common is a fluid and multifaceted thread woven by conjured images and private emotions: memories and metamorphosis of images.

Eighteen artists will be the actors on this stage, all of them from Lombardy, all of them with a strong individuality and personal vision to share:
Giuseppe Ayna, Alberto Barbieri, Franco Bassignani, Sergio Battarola, Giacomo Benevelli, Paolo Bonaldi, Giovanni Bruno, Mariangela De Maria, Paola Fonticoli, Mauro Fornari, Maria Cristina Galli, Elena Modorati, Giangi Pezzotti, Valdi Spagnulo, Luigi Stradella, Luiso Sturla, Alessandro Traina, Bruno Zoppetti.

The exhibit has been designed by Claudio Rizzi and organized by Ad Acta Associazione Culturale; it is sponsored by Comune di Maccagno, Regione Lombardia, and Provincia di Varese, with the cooperation of Provincia di Milano.
“Metaphors of Memory” opens in Parisi-Valle Museum in Maccagno and will later be moved to Spazio Guicciardini in Milan (in December 2007).

The catalog – published by Nicolini Editore – includes pictures of all the works displayed in the exhibition as well as exhaustive information about the artists and their works.
