Pressrelease

The four-year project called “Acquisitions” (2006/2009) allowed the museum to include in its permanent collection around 200 works that pretty much summarize the diverse trends that form contemporary art’s various facets.

“Suggestions” offers a homogeneous view on the works that have been acquired, looking at it not as a finishing line, but as a starting point. The exhibit is the physical manifestation of an idea that guides us to new paths and territories, concepts without redundancy that become models or experimentation, an occasion to think about art without unnecessary emphasis and with an adequate knowledge of its pivotal points.

Contemporary art, finally free from the figurative obligations that ruled until the dawn of the nineteenth century, has solid foundations in the suggestion and the emotions it can conjure up.
The descriptive nature of figurative art, which often hid educational and moral intents, made way for freedom of interpretation thru hints or questions that stir the observer’s emotions.
This is the theme the exhibition wants to develop, while presenting the various artistic language of contemporary art.

Forty-five works from the museum’s collection will be displayed. These are works by the following artists: Sergio Alberti, Giuseppe Ayna, Paolo Barrile, Anna Clara Beltrami, Paolo Bonaldi, Alessandra Bonoli, Giovanni Bruno, Claudia Canavesi, Elisabetta Casella, Nino Cassani, Lorenzo Cazzaniga, Alfredo Colombo, Melo Consoli, Giancarlo Curone, Francesco Dalmaschio, Mario De Leo, Ilaria Forlini, Mauro Fornari, Giovanna Fra, Grazia Gabbini, Adriana Marchetto, Max Marra, Franco Marrocco, Gualtiero Mocenni, Elena Modorati, Maria Molteni, Antonio Musella, Ayako Nakamiya, Daniela Nenciulescu, Raffaele Penna, Lucio Perna, Antonio Pizzolante, Gabriele Poli, Grazia Ribaudo, Giusi Santoro, Alessandro Savelli, Paolo Schiavocampo, Ida Rosa Scotti, Stefano Soddu, Osvaldo Spagnulo, Elena Strada, Luigi Stradella, Alessandro Traina, Armanda Verdirame, Pierantonio Verga.

The curator is Claudio Rizzi, with coordination by Ad Acta, sponsored by Regione Lombardia and Provincia di Varese, catalog by Silvia Editrice.
