Press release

"Il Bandolo dell'Arte" is the title of the personal exhibition of Mauro Bonaventura’s works, hosted by Civic Museum Parisi Valle in Maccagno.
The exhibit has been especially designed to enhance the fascinating qualities of the glass used for these works, such as transparency and brightness, geometry, lightness, but also the complex structure of these interwoven threads and glass clews.
Far from being a mere exercise in shapes, Bonaventura’s works are also an exploration of more profound meanings.
His works, in fact, are often conceptualized: a human head contains thoughts, projects, phobias; a drill, a closed drawer, a brick, a nest of barbed wire symbolize moods and aspects of our consciousness, anxieties, obsessions and ideas. These are very creative works, often with a touch of irony in their titles.
Mauro Bonaventura's artistic growth reaches its apex with almost lifelike figures, often enclosed in intricate cages, towers of Babel, expressive constructions, or spheres.
Clara Castaldo explains: "Mauro Bonaventura plunges into tangles made of glass, and the more complex the web is, the deeper the artist dives. We are free to interpret them any way we want: you can travel with your memory to the famous Anatomical Machines underneath the Chapel of Sansevero, or think of theatrical shapes, or even modern technological or industrial extrudes. Bonaventura's invaluable carousels of synapses invite the observer to examine patiently, to unravel the clew, to witness and solve a mystery, to seek for something new and generate positive energies. When you do, the tangle will not be a denied access, nor a cause for despair, but an opportunity for intelligent and profound reflection, a clue rather than a doubt: it will show a viable route, a safe road. I prefer to interpret Bonaventura’s meanders as patience and hope that become the crop that, in turn, comes from sowing. That’s how his complex shapes can lead to a feasible option, to a solution obtained through meticulous search. "
Mauro Bonaventura was born in Venice in 1965. At 18 years of age he graduates in electronics. While looking for a job, fate gives him the opportunity to become an apprentice in a Venetian furnace where he learns the traditional techniques of Murano glass processing.
He is immediately fascinated by the incandescent glass. He starts his career as an artist by learning glass-blowing techniques and glass decoration. 1992 will turn out to be a turning point for Mauro, when he is lucky enough to be invited by a glassblowing master to observe his lampwork technique.
A new passion strikes him when he realizes that this technique allows him to explore a new and exciting way of working glass.
