Chromatism - Gianfranco Tassi

CHROMATISM AT THE CIVIC MUSEUM OF MACCAGNO
Gianfranco Tassi presents a selection of works in Maccagno con Pino e Veddasca

“Cromatismi” is the title of Gianfranco Tassi's solo exhibition in the Parisi Valle Civic Museum in Maccagno con Pino e Veddasca open from Saturday 24 July (inauguration at 6.00 pm).

The exhibition by this artist from Carnago, which presents the public with an exhaustive anthology of works, many of which are unpublished, will remain open until Sunday 3 October.
"With this important exhibition we want to reaffirm that art and culture are an essential part of our community's identity, especially in the uncertain times we live in today.
The recovery process after the covid-19 crisis will be long for our society and the Museums, which are unique meeting and learning places, will play an important role in mending and strengthening our social fabric. However, the tide seemes to have been turning in the past few weeks and we can now safely go back to museums, cinemas and theaters and claim our free time activities back, fully aware of their inestimable value," said Mayor Fabio Passera and the Councilor for Culture Elisabetta Cornolò.
"Living in a time of constraints and suffering, I found myself creating a series of works with an intensely chromatic essence that stemmed from the desire to return to normality, conviviality, and freedom. 'Chromatism' is a term that brings with it a symbolic enrichment, which I find indispensable at this point of my artistic journey," as Gianfranco Tassi says in the introduction to the catalog of his personal exhibition.
"Looking for a definition for his own creative path, Tassi seems to place himself in a mix of influences and references: informal Abstraction, Art Brut, Dadaism, neo-Cubism, but also an aesthetic singularity interested in Merzbau or in the experiments of Kurt Schwitters, Depero, Escher, Basquiat. In this way the concept of chromatism appears dilated and extended, and that is easily perceivable both in Tassi's sculptural three-dimensionality and in his two-dimensional works.
Unable to force his art inside a narrow dogmatic definition, the artist prefers to focus on matter and materials, on the graphic contrast of color and shadow, on the treatment of surfaces. He moves away from purely figurative art, both in his graphic and sculptural production's composition choices; his relying on an abbreviated and minimal presence often leads back to a humanizing vision of shape and a fundamental archetype," explains Clara Castaldo, curator of the exhibit.
