The Civic Museum of Maccagno starts again from ... 100
"Nature and its four elements" - a century of art in Varese

Parisi Valle Civic Museum in Maccagno con Pino e Veddasca opens to the public again with a large exhibition for the hundredth anniversary of Circolo degli Artisti di Varese.
The inauguration will be on Saturday, May 30th 2020 at 4.00 pm. No opening ceremony will be held and only a limited number of people at a time will be granted access in order to respect the covid 19 regulations and guarantee the public’s safety.
The exhibition, entitled "Nature and its four elements," which will be open until August 23rd 2020, will present a selection of forty works by different artists who perform an innovative and in depth analysis of the relationship between art and science, as well as its connection with creativity, nature and philosophy.

“Circolo degli Artisti di Varese’s exhibition marks the new start after the lockdown. We hope these artists will help us through this sort of tsunami that has endangered our health and upset our lives. The terrible crisis that we have experienced has forced us to reconsider so many things we took for granted. Yet, we never ceased to believe that only Beauty and Culture could, if only for a few moments, help us overcome the many adversities we encountered every day ," said Fabio Passera, the Mayor of Maccagno con Pino and Veddasca.

"By opening our museum again with such an important exhibition, we want to send a positive signal and put art and culture back at the center of our community’s life. 2020 is the hundredth anniversary of the ‘Circolo degli Artisti di Varese’ (Varese Artists' Club): a whole century of history and art.
This association’s nature is expressed by the word “circolo” (club), which perfectly describes this group of people who gather to discuss and promote all the many facets of culture. Also, the board of directors produced two videos that show all the works displayed in this exhibition to post them on all the various social networks and local media during the lockdown weeks: a creative way to stay in touch with art", explains Antonio Bandirali, president of the club.

"It’s no use denying our concerns for the future of all museums and the invaluable cultural heritage that they protect, which is an essential part of our communities’ identity, especially during the uncertain times we are living in today. So, here’s our dilemma: if, on the one hand, the many virtual museum tours have been an injection of positivity, on the other hand we must admit that these virtual tours that use beauty to break the monotony of these days are not enough. We need new ideas to start again, and we are well aware that a direct contact with the works is fundamental. Recovering after covid 19 will be a long process. Museums, places of culture and learning open to everybody, will play an important role in repairing and strengthening the social fabric of our communities. In Maccagno, we continue to work for those who believe that cultural growth is as important as oxygen itself. Therefore, we welcome you all back! ," concludes Clara Castaldo, head of the Civic Museum’s art exhibitions department.
